Blue Gnus

The Blue Gnus is a jazz ensemble that has been presenting history of jazz programs with Young
Audiences since the early 1990’s. The ensemble began its Young Audiences career as a band called
Cadillac Brass and later became known as the Blue Gnus when the leadership changed hands. Eddie
Lewis, the band’s current leader, has been a member with the band since 1993. Eddie Lewis is
regarded as one of Houston’s top professional trumpet players. His career as a freelance musician
has put him on stage with a long list of famous artists that includes Michael Bolton, Portugal the
Man, John Denver, The OJs, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Johnny Matthis, Bob Newhart,
Kenny Rogers and many others. As a session musician, Eddie has recorded many albums, including
a Grammy Award winning CD by Little Joe called Chicanismo [Tejano Music Category]. Eddie is
also an accomplished composer and most of the music in the Blue Gnus performances is his
arrangements.
