Denis L. Kidwell

Denis retired from Jersey Village High School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD where he was the Head Band Director (1992-2012) and Head Orchestra Director (2000-2012). He previously was the Director of Bands in La Marque ISD (198 -1992) and Spring Branch ISD (Westchester Junior High 1979-1981; Stratford High School 1981-1984). He began playing trumpet at 8 years old under the supervision of his father. In seventh grade, he switched to euphonium and that is still his principal instrument. At the University of Houston (1973- 1979), Denis studied euphonium and tuba with William H. (Bill) Rose, trombone with Al Lube, and trumpet with Jim Austin (all members of the Houston Symphony). In 1984-1985 Denis completed his Masters in Applied Music (Conducting) while working as the late Eddie Green's graduate assistant.

After retiring early in December 2012 because of cancer (he is now eight and a half years cancer-free), Denis began work as an independent instrumental music consultant, and he has worked with over forty instrumental music programs. He is most often asked to clinic large ensembles, but he also does many brass master classes and enjoys helping get beginner brass students started and having the opportunity to share the valuable information he received from his many fine lesson instructors (Tom Knoflicek, Joyce Boelsche, Bill Ro e, Al Lube, and Jim Austin) and ensemble mentors (Tom Bennet and Eddie Green).

"Mr. Green’s and Mr. Kidwell’s guidance has helped expand our capacity as teachers to promote our student's success,” Allen said.
