Lily He
Lily is a photographer, a theatre teaching artist, and an advocate for arts integration in schools and in families. She loves working with children.
Raised in an artist’s family, Lily benefited from an early art education in painting, calligraphy and music. Lily strongly believes in aesthetic education. Her two daughters inspire her to shift focus to arts integration. She discovered that children respond well through art-infused way of teaching. Besides photography and theater, Lily’s research interest includes but is not limited to early child development, bilingual education, children's way of learning and arts integration.
Lily started to work at Main Street Theater in Houston in 2016. She taught theater in China every summer from 2015 to 2019. In 2018, she led a group of three theater artists from Houston to China, presenting multiple workshops to both children and teachers using both English and Chinese. In 2019, she participated in the 5th International Drama Education Conference (IDEC) held in China and completed a 3-day master class training with Jonathan Neelands. In July, she designed and conducted six theater workshops for both children and teachers with her American colleagues in Chengdu and Shanghai, China. In 2021, she completed a 5-month professional development and residency program with YA Arts Learning Lab. The YA network has helped to broaden her horizon tremendously. She completed the Trauma-Informed Art Practice Training in 2021 and the annual 50 hours Responsive Arts in School Education (RAISE) Program from 2022 to 2026. Her training included healing-centered practices and culturally responsive teaching. Lily earned her National TA credential in 2026. She is also a proud translator for the theater book, A School Play.
Lily’s Chinese culture classes include Chinese language, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, paper cutting art and Chinese story telling etc.
Lily believes that there is an artist living inside every child. As a teacher, she needs to provide a safe space to connect that inner artist with learning and empower them through art.
